PBA - I Am Professional CampaignAs part of a continued effort to educate law makers, consumers and the industry on the importance of beauty industry licensing and regulations, and to prevent industry deregulation, the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) has announce the new “I Am A Professional. I Am Licensed.” movement. This awareness campaign aims to build a stronger, more united front of licensed professionals, and arm them with information to share with their clients on why licensing is important to protect the public from potential harm and the spread of communicable diseases.

Health, safety, and accountability – Just three of the reasons why it’s important to be a licensed professional. The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) understands how hard you have worked for your career. In December 2012, PBA conducted a first-of-its-kind national poll regarding regulation and licensing of beauty industry professionals.

Licensed professionals study skin and scalp care, anatomy, biology, chemistry, and science-based infection control and are trained to utilize chemicals and tools safely.

Protect Your License

Faced with pressures to decrease government regulation, state law makers across the U.S. have already, or are in the process of, introducing legislation that would deregulate the cosmetology industry completely.

Protect Yourself and Your Clients

If the professional beauty industry was deregulated, it would affect everyone from manufacturers and distributors, to salon owners and licensed professionals. Most importantly, it is consumers who would be put at the greatest risk.

Being licensed and part of a regulated professional industry helps to provide consumer protection and consumer safety. Send a message to your clients and the industry that you are educated, knowledgeable, and have met all the requirements to ensure competency verified by testing.

Share your pride. Let your clients know that licensed professionals:

  • Complete hundreds of hours of schooling
  • Learn proper techniques and best practices
  • Graduate from a cosmetology program
  • Successfully pass their state board exam
  • Practice proper sanitation procedures to minimize the threat of viral and bacterial infections
  • Care about the industry and the safety of their clients!

I am a licensed Cosmetologist. Please do not discredit us nor deregulate my position as a proud stylist. I didn’t go to school for nothing.
